fruit salad footies

So my earlier sad, sad photo of the unfinished footies...well I just couldn't stand it anymore and after a moment of silence, I fixed them last night.  Thank you everyone for the kind words and your earlier support on the cashshort pair.  Now take a look, don't they look vibrant and fruity?

So I cranked the left one out Saturday night and the other one Sunday AM...I thought it would be a good use of the 3rd ball of the leftover Rowan Cashsoft that I had used for my Sockapal2za pal's socks...but look...it's just so sad...

I have never wished until now, that yarn came in thirds on the shelf!  argh.

Oh no--there's a late contender yarn for my sockpal.  I think I'm going to go with this:

from a touch of cashmere

I think I'm ready to cast on with this yarn and not b/c I previously stated that I want socks from that other hot pink yarn, I promise.  I want a yarn that would make the pattern stand out for my sockpal.  I also want to knit some super soft socks that she will love & when wearing, will fondly remember this sockapal2za :) !  I had seen the pattern that I will be doing completed with the Fortissima yarn and the twists and turns just weren't as crisp as when done with this yarn.  I did get 3 balls, just in case 2 weren't enough. 

Whee, here I go!

zombie be gone

Well, I am happy to say that I am back amongst the living once again.  SIFF really turns me into a zombie for the latter part of May until mid-June every single year...and yet I go back for more with each new festival.

Not getting home until 2AM and then turning around and having to be up by 6AM reeeeeallly makes for a undead, surreal state of consciousness, let me tell you.  It got to be that getting home at 11PM was early!!  All this and I only saw about half the number of movies that I normally go to.  None of this, of course, left me ANY time to knit so I've got lots to catch up on.

Firstly, I'd like to say that MF loved her bumblebee birthday socks!!  Here they are ...

For these, the magicloop method was used and the socks were knit at the same time.  I have to say it's definitely the way to go when you're knitting with tiny, thin gauged yarn.  Fewer sts were cast on for the left foot than the right since it's also smaller than the other one.  The yarn is Opal color #1190 and was done on a US1 addi-turbo circular needle.  Even though the leg of the sock was about 6", there is SO much yarn leftover that I'm thinking about making a pair of footies or regular socks for my niece out of the leftovers!

Secondly, I have received the name of my Sockapal2za pal and I'm WAY excited about this!  I've been anxiously awaiting the name and info so that I can get a cast on!

Lastly, I do have an update on the NBaT knitalong!  Something lit a fire under me, well, okay a new project did, so I've been wanting to get this done and off of the needles not to mention that it will be nice to wear, finally.  I'll be done with the sleeves tonight, there's no doubt about it!

Awhile back, I had posted about seeing some pretty spiffy socks in one of my knitting groups and how I had bought the yarn to make some for my nephew.  I finally found a way to contact Adrienne, the sock knitter and she's graciously allowed me to post pictures of them.  You ready?  They're quite awesome...

I finished up the back of my NBaT with the Japanese short rows, and cast on and got a good 1/4 of the front done last night...I'll post pics soon.

Something I've been thinking and wondering about...

For the 2 socks on the 1 circular...I used a tail from each end of the skein after it was wound into a neat little yarn cake.  (mmmm cake)  What I'm wondering is...does that matter?  I know that yarn has a "direction" of nap.  Go ahead.  Feel it.  Run your fingers one way and then the other.  It will be rougher in one direction.  Does this matter?  Will it affect my socks?  Is the difference negligible?  Anyone?

gryffindor rules

I went to see if there was anything in my mailbox and this is what I found!

My nephew doesn't know yet, but I'm going to knit him some really clever socks I saw a member knit in my Six Sox group. It was a variation of the sock pattern where each took the pattern, changed the colors and made it their own.  They most definitely had a Harry Potter/Gryffindor flavor to them, and I know he will absolutely love them!  I am really looking forward to getting them done.  I'd post a picture of the finished set, but I'm not sure how to contact the person who knitted them so it will have to wait until I get started on them!  Perhaps I'll even try knitting both at the same time after my magic loop class this weekend...

This is the first time that I finished the toe off per the pattern's usual rows of decreases.  Normally the short row method is used, the same one that's used for the heel and finishing it up is done by seamlessly kitchenering it up on the under side.  Yup, this was a nice change...though it's late tonight and I'll wait to cast on for the left one tomorrow.  Night all!

Remember the Oral Surgeon socks?  Well, I finally have a finished picture...I had mentioned before that they would need a bit of custom tweaking...the reason?  It's b/c MF only has 3 toes on one foot...yes it was a tractor accident from childhood when growing up in Minnesota...don't be sad, she's not...she does quite well with fewer toes on that one foot.

She had mentioned before how socks on that one foot just never fit right being bulky and all, so I thought I'd make some for her that really fit!  She wears them, so I think the alteration worked just fine!

It's funny how much longer things take then you think...getting new accounts set up, posting new posts...at least I'm able to log into typepad today to say a little something...!

I often wonder who stops by to peruse my site, and a short while ago I got an email from someone named Tina who, from my post about where to find the Weasley pattern was able to find one for herself!  Hooyah, that's SO awesome!!  I asked her to keep me posted on her sweater progress...

The NBaT knitalong is going along well, though I don't have a picture of that for you today...I've been passing the time with mastering this...

The diagonal rib pattern from IK was a little easier to knit than it read.  I had never k2tog, leave sts on the left needle and k1 into first st, rem both sts before...so I wasn't quite sure how to do that.  A socknitter pal (Joy--wonder if she has a site) encouraged me to try the pattern and to not give up.  I'm really enjoying it, it's a fun knit!
